A.P.S. Evening College Of  Arts & Commerce
Acharya Pathasala was first started as a primary school by Prof. N. Ananthachar on 15 August, 1935 in Basavanagudi, Bangalore, with the sole aim of serving the poor and needy students of the locality.  Over the years, the generous contributions of Philanthrophists, educationists, guardians and a host of distinguished personalities led to the growth of Acharya Pathasala into a group of A.P.S.Educational Institutions.

A.P.S. Evening College of Arts and Commerce was established in 1964 as an outcome of the persistent request of employees residing in the southern part of Bangalore city who had no facilities to improve their qualification and prospects.  Necessary staff and other facilities were provided by the Management satisfying the University requirements.  Initially the teaching staff of the Day College was assigned work in the Evening College, with the Heads of Departments being also in charge of the respective Departments of the Evening College.

However, the College has now separate teaching and non-teaching staff, and works as an independent unit in all respects.  The college is equipped with highly qualified, talented and dedicated teachers.  It has an excellent library comprising of nearly 30,000 volumes.  The college offers B.A., and B.Com. Courses and the students of B.A., have the option of choosing one of the four combinations of subjects available in the college.  There is also the facility of teaching the core subjects in Kannada for the benefit of Kannada medium students.

A.P.S. Evening College of Arts and Commerce has achieved the distinguished status of being “the first” at least in three respects.

Ř It was the “first” Evening College to have been opened in the State (1964).  It was the “first” Evening College to come to under Grant-in-aid scheme in the State (1969).

Ř It is the “first “Evening College to have been granted permanent affiliation by the Bangalore University.

Ř Result wise too, the college has achieved considerable success.  From the last 3 - 4 years, the results have been very encouraging and in some subjects like Sociology, Political Science, Sanskrit and Optional Kannada there has been a record result of 100%.

Ř The College feels proud of the following old students who are now holding positions of high esteem and academic achievement.
