CULTURAL CLUB

At Acharya Patashala Evening College of Arts and Commerce the importance of cultural activities to support and enhance academic activities is given due value. The College organizes lot of cultural activities for the students for the overall development of the students. Cultural Club of the College promotes students in exhibiting their talents to the ultimate level on par with any Professional talents. They are given opportunity to Learn, Practice and Perform.

NSS

National Service Scheme (NSS) was introduced in 1969 with the primary objective of developing the personality and character of the student youth through voluntary community service. “Education through Service” is the purpose of the NSS. The ideological orientation of the NSS is inspired by the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi.

Objectives of NSS

  • Understand the community in which they work
  • Understand themselves in relation to their community
  • Identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem- solving
  • Develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility
  • Utilize their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community problems
  • Develop competence required for group-living and sharing of responsibilities
  • Gain skills in mobilising community participation
  • Acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitudes
  • Develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters and
  • Practice national integration and social harmony

Women Empowerment Cell

Women Empowerment Cell is designed to empower women socially, economically, politically and legally with a focus on promoting decision making. It conducts various activities and arranges Guest Lectures to accelerate the academic enhancement, leadership development and cultural enrichment in the lives of young women.

Anti Sexual Harassment Cell

As per the guidelines of UGC, NAAC and the Supreme Court an Anti-Sexual Harassment Cell has been established by Presidency College to provide .
The cell has well-developed guidelines and norms for a policy to uphold zero tolerance towards sexual harassment. The college has entrusted the task of developing principles and procedures for combating sexual harassment to this cell. Cell promotes measures aimed at achieving gender equality, removal of gender bias or discrimination, sexual harassment, and other acts of gender-based violence by organising awareness programmes and campaigns for the benefit of all members of the College.

Red Cross

Young volunteers make a significant contribution meeting the needs of the most vulnerable people within their local communities through Red Cross youth.

Anti Ragging Cell

Anti-Ragging Committee will be the Supervisory and Advisory Committee in preserving a Culture of Ragging Free Environment in the college Campus. The Anti-Ragging Squad- office bearers will work under the Supervision of Anti Ragging Committee and to engage in the works of checking places like Canteens, Classrooms and other places of student congregation. Anti-Ragging Committee will be involved in designing strategies and action plan for curbing the Menace of Ragging in the college by adopting array of activities.

Ragging is a heinous crime and a criminal offence as declared by the Supreme Court of India. College has been successful in creating a ragging – free campus. Our College believes in fostering a harmonious relationship amongst its students and strictly condemns ragging. We have an anti – ragging cell which comprises of the Principal and other staff members. The students are sensitized on the ill effects of ragging and the legal proceedings in curbing the practice. Awareness is created via orientation programmes in the first semester as well as before the commencement of each academic year.

Grievances redressal cell

The Grievance Redressal Cell of A.P.S Evening College was formally constituted for its members to probe into the student grievances which comprises of the Principal, Heads of the department and Class Teachers. It redresses the grievances at an individual as well as the class level and grievances of common interest. The Cell maintains a conducive and unprejudiced educational environment. Complaints of students and parents are redressed as soon as they are received.

Student Counselling

Counseling helps students to manage their emotions better, improve focus on goals and work in a systematic manner for their better future. Group sessions are conducted to build self-esteem, manage stress, effectively manage time, help set goals, handle failure and emerge wiser from it, etc. Compassionate supportive counseling is extended for students who have mental health issues to help them regain good health and manage their studies effectively.

Some of the issues effectively handled by our Student Counselor are

  • Difficulty in coping with any particular subject
  • Groupism or isolation
  • Relationship issues and emotional confusios

Covid-19 Awareness Cell

APS Evening College of Arts and Commerce Covid-19 Cell to address student grievances related to Covid-19 pandemic. The Covid-19 Cell was extended further with more members to form Covid Task Force as per the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) provided by UGC and the Government of Karnataka.

Scholarship :

The University and the Government (both State & Central) has extended various educational & financial benefits such as Fee concessions, Scholarships, Educational loans, etc., for eligible OBC (Cat-1,1IA. IIB, IIIA & 1IIB) and Minority students studying Bachelors Courses in colleges.
Addressing the grievances of other backward classes (SC/ST/OBC) and Minorities students cell.
APS Educational Trust has also extended financial support for meritorious students.

Student council:

A Student Council of the college enables in participative nature that is imbibed in the college tradition. Students learn, take decisions, participate and help in constructing a new cultural tradition.

Sports club:

Though this institution is an Evening College, with the limited scope for the sports, we have devised and created an atmosphere for the sports activities for the students. Separate sports events for girls and boys are organized for the students every year and prizes are awarded.

Film Club

The Film Club though operates in the spare time of the semester duration screening award winning films for the students. Discussions are held after the screening of the films. Sometimes the director or the film crew are invited to the college and an interactive session is conducted. Some of the texts are filmed in the native languages which are screened after the teaching sessions. .
